The Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane

At the annual Synod, there were be two motions in relation to the twentieth anniversary celebrations both were passed. It was gratifying that electors seemed to take heed of the Dean’s “note to self” as half of those elected to General Synod were women (an increase from 1/5).

The Right Reverend Dr J C Holland to move, Miss R Morell seconding:

That this Synod:

notes with joy the twentieth anniversary of the first ordination of women to the priesthood in this Diocese on St Thomas’ Day 1992, and gives thanks to God for the ongoing ministry of women in the Anglican Church of Australia as laity, deacons, priests and bishops.”

The Very Reverend Dr P C Catt to move, The Honourable Justice D Mullins seconding:

That this Synod:

In response to the Anglican Consultative Council Resolution 13:31 and the General Synod Resolution 85/07, supports the goal of equal representation of women in the elections to General Synod and in appointments and elections to diocesan representative anddecision-making committees, boards and agencies.”

(For the background to this motion check the Diocesan website.)
