Celebrating Twenty Years of Women Priests in the Anglican Church/Australia

2012 marks the twentieth anniversary of the ordination of women priests in Australia.
After February 1992 ordinations in Canberra were halted because of a recourse to the Supreme Court, a special General Synod voted in favour of the ordination of women as priests. In Brisbane a special Synod was held in November to approve the General Synod motion and on December 20 that year, five women were ordained as priests.

This year, there will be a number of celebrations.
A Novena of Meditations published on this blog and used publicly throughout the Diocese – May 22 – 30 to mark the dates of the Consecration of Australia’s first women bishops in 2008
Regular reflections on this page on the effect of women clergy in the lives of those whom they serve
A Eucharist in St John’s Cathedral celebrated by Bishop Barbara Darling
July 13
The publication of a book of the way in which women clergy express themselves in poetry, liturgy and art.
A celebratory dinner on December 7 – Function XXXX Brewery. Invitations out soon.
